Five arrested with heroin, intoxicants in various cases
After the arrest of 29 persons in the crackdown against drugs on Saturday, the Jalandhar Rural Police arrested five more persons in five separate cases registered at Patara and Mehatpur on Sunday. While three were arrested by the Mehatpur police with illegal liquor and intoxicants, two men were arrested by the Patara police with 6 gm heroin and intoxicated tablets.
Three alleged peddlers were arrested by the Mehatpur police with illegal liqour and intoxicated tablets in Jalandhar.
The police said a team found a drug smuggler awaiting customers, while sitting with illegal liquor at the village funeral grounds at Mehsampur village on Saturday. They apprehended the ‘smuggler’ Balwinder Singh, alias Binder, resident of Mehsampur. A case has been registered under Sections 61 and 1 of the Excise Act at Mehatpur police station. The police have recovered 20 bottles of illegal liquor from Binder.
In a separate case, the police near Ismailpur village in Mehatpur spotted a man, who, on seeing the police, dropped a black polythene on the road side. On being apprehended, the man was identified as Vicky. The police said 119 intoxicant tablets were recovered from the polybag thrown by the man. A case under Sections 22, 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act has been registered against the man at the Mehatpur police station on March 1. The police said three FIRs had also been registered against the man previously.
A third peddler was also arrested by the Mehatpur police with intoxicants on Saturday.
Meanwhile, the Patara police arrested two men with 6 gm heroin and 210 intoxicated tablets in Jalandhar.
SSP, Jalandhar, HPS Khakh said a police party near Puranpur village spotted a man coming from the Puranpur side, heading to the village Muzaffarpur side on March 1. On seeing them, he threw down a polythene. Seeing this, the police arrested him. The youth was identified as Sunny Kumar of Muzzafarpur in Jalandhar.
The police recovered the polythene thrown by Sunny from which 3 gm heroin and 90 tablets were recovered.
Another police party during patrol near the Chadpur bridge spotted a young man, who on seeing the police tried to run. ASI Harminder Singh apprehended the man. He was identified as Lovepreet, alias Sakkha, of village Patara. Upon being searched, 3 gm heroin and 120 tablets were recovered in a packet from Lovepreet.
The Patara police have booked the duo in two separate cases filed against them.
A case was registered against Sunny Kumar on March 1 under Sections 21-A, 22 B, 61, 85, of the NDPS Act at the Patara police station.
A case was also registered against Lovepreet Singh on March 1 under Sections 21 A, 22 B, 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act at the Patara police station. The police said the accused would also be presented in a court.
