Phagwara: The police on Saturday booked five persons on the charges of extortion and gangrape. SHO Jatinder Kumar said the complainant had gone to Mirzapur on February 16 with her son to collect medicine, when Banarasi Devi, Rajowal, Sumba, Saroj, Ranja, Sonu came in a car and took her to a deserted place at gunpoint and gangraped her. A case has been registered. oc

DCC working chief expelled

Phagwara: The disciplinary action committee on Friday expelled the District Congress Committee, Kapurthala, working president, Daljit Singh Raju, from the Congress with immediate effect. AICC-in-charge Punjab and Chandigarh, Harish Chaudhary, said the expulsion of Raju has been ordered in view of his anti-party activities.
