Five held for using courier service to deliver intoxicants in Tanda
The police have arrested five persons, including four medical store operators, for smuggling intoxicants. So far, 21,600 habit-forming capsules, 33,800 intoxicating pills and Rs 10 lakh drug money has been seized from the accused.
On September 21, the CIA Staff had arrested Ajay Walia, who runs a cloth shop at Mohalla Jagatpura, Hoshiarpur, with more than 12,000 intoxicating pills and seized Rs 5 lakh drug money from him.
During interrogation, Walia told the police that he used to get the pills through a courier from Rahul Yadav, a resident of Agra.
He disclosed that Avtar Singh of Jiya Sahota Garhdiwala, who runs Sahota Medical Store, and Karamjit Singh, alias Ajay, a resident of Mohalla Kirti Nagar, used to collect the pills from him.
According to police, Karamjit passed on the intoxicating pills to Chaindeep Singh and his father Charan Singh, who operate Rajendra Medical Store in Tanda.
Chaindeep told the police that he used to sell the pills at his store along with his brother Rajinder Singh. Cops said Chaindeep confessed that he had also hidden habit-forming tablets at his brother’s house.
Acting on the information, the police team raided the house and seized 16,800 intoxicating pills, 19,200 habit-forming capsules and Rs 5 lakh drug money.
SP Sarabjit Singh Bahia said a case had been registered against Rahul, who sent the intoxicants from Agra. He said the raids were underway to nab him.
