Five held with 1.5-kg heroin, 4.5-kg opium

The rural police arrested five suspects and seized 1.5 kg heroin and 4.550 kg of opium from different locations on Friday.

The suspects have been identified as Gaurav Chauhan of Babu Labh Singh Nagar, Sanjay Chaudhary of Transport Nagar, Babloo Kumar of Budpur in Meerut, Hardeep Singh of Bihali in Chattisgarh and Surjit Singh of Lakhan Ke Padde in Kapurthala.

Addressing a press conference, SSP Navjot Singh Mahal said acting on a tip-off, the police party of the CIA staff laid a trap in Kahlwan and stopped a motorcyclist, who was identified as Gaurav Chauhan, for checking. He said on being frisked, the police seized 1.5 kg of heroin, two mobile phones and a dongle from his possession.

The SSP said it had also been found that Gaurav, along with his accomplice Sanjeev Kumar of Gagret, was involved in smuggling narcotic drugs. He said Pushpinder of Gulmarg Colony and Gurjant Singh of Sarai Amanat Khan in Tarn Taran, who were in jail, were also in touch with them. A case under Sections 21 and 29 of the NDPS Act had been registered against Gaurav at the Kartarpur police station.

In another case, the SSP said when the head of the Shankar police post, ASI Paramjeet Singh, was conducting a patrolling near Babe Da Dhaba in Dhaliwal village, he received a tip-off that Sanjay and Babloo were travelling in a Maruti Brezza vehicle (UP15-CW-4425) with opium.

He said during the checking, the police stopped the vehicle and recovered 1.5 kg of opium from the gearbox of the SUV and arrested them. A case under Section 18 of the NDPS Act had been registered against them at the Nakodar Sadar police station.

Mahal said Sub-inspector Ajit Singh while patrolling near the Bhogpur-Moga village road, apprehended two persons when they tried to flee the spot after seeing the police at the railway crossing. Later, they revealed their identities as Hardeep and Surjit. On frisking, the police recovered 2.65 kg of opium from Hardeep’s bag and 400 gm of opium from Surjit. A case under the NDPS Act has been registered against them.
