Flat owner gives memo to Phagwara MC Commissioner
Munish Kumar Sharma, a flat owner in Handa Residential Society, located near Handa Complex on the GT Road opposite the bus stand, met Municipal Commissioner Akshita Gupta to submit a memorandum demanding action against builders involved in alleged illegal construction and fraudulent sales of flats.
Sharma informed the Commissioner that the builders of the society sold flats under false pretence, claiming that they were legally approved, when the construction was actually unauthorised.
He stated that previous complaints had been submitted to municipal authorities, but no action was taken.
Even former Punjab Cabinet Minister Brahm Shankar Jimpa was given a copy of the complaint, who had assured a thorough investigation and necessary action, but in vain.
According to Sharma, when the flats were purchased 10-15 years ago, the builders had assured buyers that they complied with all government regulations.
However later, flat owners discovered that the society was not even registered in the municipal corporation’s records and had no approved building plan.
Despite multiple written complaints to the authorities concerned, no legal action has been initiated against the builders. Sharma stated that Commissioner Akshita Gupta had now assured a thorough investigation and appropriate measures to address the grievances of the affected flat owners.
Residents of the society are hopeful that the municipal authorities will finally take concrete steps against the alleged fraudulent practices and ensure justice for them.
