Phagwara, March 20

Keeping in view Covid-19, though Health Department has instructed to set up a ‘Flu Counter’ at the Civil Hospital, Phagwara, but nobody was seen at the counter on Friday. The Tribune team visited the hospital and found the counter without any doctor and patients were seen in search of attendants.

Meanwhile, Sub-Divisional Magistrate Gurwinder Singh Johal has instructed to install a barricade in Patel Nagar locality where a suspected patient Mohan Lal breathed his last. The SDM said the blood samples of the deceased have been sent to a lab to verify the cause of death as the patient was diabolic and suffering from blood pressure.

The SDM said: “The wife and daughter of the deceased have been asked for home quarantine. Senior Medical Officer Dr Sukhwinderpal Singh has appealed to the doctors and private hospitals to make their premises hygienic and treat only emergency patients.”

The SMO asked the doctors to refer all suspected cases to the Civil Hospital.

Meanwhile, The Tribune has learnt that more than 27 patients suffering from cough, headache and fever have been asked for ‘Home quarantine’. A total of 11 staff members of a bank and 15 staff members of a private hospital are included in this list.

While one girl, who is employed with a bank in Phagwara and came from Chandigarh has also been instructed for home quarantine”. Health Department has instructed to disinfect the local hospitals as preventive measure.

Meanwhile after a meeting of Cabinet Minister Sunder Sham Arora with Civil, Health and Police Officials on Thursday night, Phagwara MLA Balwinder Singh Dhaliwal today hold a meeting with all concerned officials to take required preventive measures to curb the disease.
