A shocking incident came to light in the city when a female foetus was found abandoned in a field near Mitthapur on Wednesday morning.
A local farmer, Surinder Singh, who had arrived to cut fodder, spotted the foetus wrapped in a blue cloth and immediately informed the police.
The police reached the scene and initiated an investigation. The identity of the person who abandoned the foetus remains unknown. The police have sent the foetus to the Civil Hospital for a postmortem examination.
Surinder, a resident of Mitthapur, said the foetus appeared fresh and was not there the previous day. "There is no punishment in the world for such a sin," he said, urging police to take strict action against the culprit.
Meanwhile, police officials confirmed that they received the information about the incident through control room and when the police team arrived, the child was already dead.
"No CCTV footage is available from the location but since the foetus had not been disturbed by stray animals, it had likely been discarded this morning.
