A district food safety team collected nine samples of various food items from jaggery makers and bakeries in Garhdiwala, Mukerian and Tanda areas.

District Health Officer Dr Jatinder Bhatia and Food Safety Officer Manish Sodhi said that during the checking done in different areas, a total of nine samples of milk, desi ghee, gram flour, salt, eggs, jaggery and sugar were collected. These samples have been sent to the Food Laboratory, Kharar, for testing.

Further action will be taken after receiving the report, the officials said, adding that during the checking, the owners and operators of jaggery rolling houses and bakeries have also been instructed to follow the guidelines of Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI).
