Four land in police dragnet with 1.5 kg opium, 100 intoxicant pills

The city police today arrested four drug peddlers and recovered 1.5 kg of opium and 100 tramadol intoxicant tablets from them.

Divulging details, Police Commissioner Swapan Sharma said during patrolling, a team of the special cell signalled a car bearing registration number DL4C-AW-1666 to stop for checking last evening. On seeing the police, the car driver threw a black polythene bag on the road.

During checking, the police recovered 1.5 kg of opium from the bag. Following which, they arrested Harjit Singh and Davinder Singh, both residents of Amritsar.

“The suspects have no criminal background. The police have registered a case against them under Sections 18, 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act at the Jalandhar Cantonment police station, he said.

He said another team of the special cell saw two youths near the Railway Quarter T-point at the Guru Nanak Pura railway crossing. On suspicion, the police stopped them for frisking. During checking, the police recovered 50 intoxicants each from them kept in polythene packets.

He said the police arrested the suspects identified as Deepak Kumar and Ajit Singh of Jalandhar. A case under Sections 22, 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act had been registered against them at the New Baradari police station.

The Police Commissioner said nine NDPS and forgery cases were already registered against Deepu at Jalandhar, Kapurthala and Hoshiarpur police stations, whereas a case under the NDPS Act was registered against Ajit Singh in Patiala.
