Jalandhar Mayor Jagdish Raja forms 4 new ad hoc panels

A month after forming an ad hoc committee on landscape and beautification, Mayor Jagdish Raja formed four new ad hoc committees on building and roads, sanitation and health, town planning and water supply and sewerage disposal committee today.
There are around 15 ad hoc committees in the MC, whose tenure ended in January. Of all, only five have been formed since then.

Councillor Balraj Thakur from Ward Number 28 is the chairman of the sanitation and health, Councillor Pawan Kumar from Ward Number 30 is the chairman of water supply and sewerage disposal, Nirmal Singh Nimma from Ward Number 6 and Jagdish Kumar Dakoha from Ward Number 28 is the chairmen of the Town Planning and Building and Roads respectively.
On July 1, an ad hoc committee on landscape and beautification was formed. Councillor Jasleen Sethi was made the chairman of the committee and Councillors Bimla Rani, Prabhdayal Bhagat and Tamanreet Kaur from Ward Nos. 13, 22 and 1, respectively, were its members.
According to the Punjab Municipal Corporation Act, 1976, the MC has to constitute committees on water supply and sewerage disposal, building and roads, house tax assessment, and other such committees. The Act also reads that each committee would elect one of its member as its chairman and another member as vice-chairman.
The committees play a major role in various works of the civic body. Councillors are members of the committees and they can raise problems of residents with the respective branch. Besides, even works of various branches get distributed and decentralised.
