Nurmahal: The Nurmahal police have booked a Ludhiana-based travel agent for allegedly duping a Nurmahal resident of Rs 9 lakh on the pretext of sending him abroad. Investigating officer (IO) Kulwindar Singh said the suspect has been identified as Chandani Bharti. The IO said Harwindar Singh, a resident of Mohalla Kohlian, Nurmahal, complained to the police that he paid Rs 9 lakh to Bharti for facilitating his migration to Canada but he was not sent abroad nor returned the money. The IO said a case under Sections 406 (breach of trust), 420 (cheating) of the IPC has been registered against Bharti. In another case, the Shahkot police have booked two travel agents, Kala Singh of Sighpura village and Pardeep Kumar of Ludhiana for duping a Shahkot resident Ramesh of Rs 8 lakh on pretext of sending him abroad. Cheating: NRI woman booked
Hoshiarpur: Chabbewal police have registered a case against an NRI woman for allegedly duping a person of Rs 22 lakh on pretext of taking him to Canada after marriage. Parminder Singh, a resident of Saidpur village, had lodged a complaint with the police that he was married to Mandeep Kaur, a native of Khanoor village, on the condition that she would take him to Canada on spouse visa after marriage. He said his family allegedly spent Rs 22 lakh to send Mandeep to Canada. But after this his wife did not apply to bring him to Canada as promised and now does not even talk to him over phone. After the investigation, Chabbewal police have registered a case of cheating against Mandeep. oc
20-kg poppy husk seized, 2 arrested
Lohian: The Lohian Khas police have arrested two drug peddlers on the charge of selling poppy husk tablets on Sunday night. Investigating Officer Jaspal Singh said 20 kg poppy husk was seized from the possession of the accused identified as Jatindar Singh, alias Dimple, a resident of Gill Pati village, under Jamsher Sadar police station in Jalandhar and Sharanjit Singh, alias Sonu a resident of Benchan village, under Tanda police station in Hoshiarpur. The IO said the contraband was kept in a truck (PB-08-CH-9514) which has been impounded. The IO said a case under Sections 15, 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act has been registered. OC
Gang of thieves busted, 3 held
Nakodar: The Nakodar sadar police have busted a gang of thieves with the arrest of its three members on Monday. Investigating Officer Jorawar Singh said the accused have been identified as Gurdeep Singh, alias Gopi, a resident of Mudh village, Ram Pal, alias Pala, a resident of Kang Sahibu village and Som Nath, alias Kamal, a resident of Mudh village colony. Abdul Hamid, a resident of Mudh village, complained to the police that the accused stole an engine, a pump, and pipes from his motor in the fields. The IO said a case under Section 379 (theft) of the IPC has been registered against the accused. OC
Three held with 38 mobile phones
Jalandhar: The city police arrested three persons and seized 38 mobile phones, mobile accessories, CCTV camera, a bike and a sound system from their possession. They have been identified as Jeevan Singh, resident of Aujla Phatak, Mangi Colony, Kapurthala, Gurvinder Singh, alias Govind and Gautam, alias Nepali, both residents of Thakur Nagar, Tower Colony, Kapurthala. As per police, the accused were wanted in a theft case reported on May 30 this year. They had stolen 14 mobile phones, a sound system, CCTV cameras and other items from the RKV mobile care shop located in Raj Nagar here. A case under Sections 380, 457, 411 and 34 of the IPC has been registered against the accused at police station Basti Bawa Khel. TNS
Three injured in road accident
Hoshiarpur: Three pilgrims were injured in a road accident on Mahilpur-Phagwara road on Monday. Narinder Singh, a resident of Haveli village, told that he was returning with his family from a religious place located in Bharata Ganeshpur. When he reached near Pathrala, a car coming from the opposite direction hit him. According to him, he, his wife Pradeep Kaur and his nephew Gurnek Singh were injured in this accident. All three were admitted to Civil Hospital, Mahilpur. As soon as the information about the incident was received, the police of Mahilpur police station reached the spot and started investigation. OC
Goods stolen, house set on fire
Hoshiarpur: Police of Bullowal have registered a case for allegedly setting a house on fire after stealing valuables from it, against the unidentified thieves. Ranjit Kaur, a resident of Dhodo Majra village, has lodged a complaint with the police. She told the police that she had gone to her relatives on Sunday, when her neighbours informed her that smoke was coming out of her house, she reached there with her relatives and saw that unidentified thieves had set the house on fire after stealing valuables. The police have registered a case. OC
Twelve vehicles found damaged
Phagwara: Some unidentified miscreants damaged 12 vehicles in local Daddal Mohalla locality after Sunday midnight. Windowpanes and front glasses were badly broken by the miscreants. DSP Achhru Ram Sharma while confirming the incident said violent quarrel between two barring groups of youths could be the cause of damaging the vehicles parked outside the vehicle owners’ houses. DSP said though two persons have been rounded up on the basis of CCTV footage but none of the vehicle owner lodged any complaint before the police. OC
Two booked on theft charge
Hoshiarpur: The Mukerian police have booked two persons on the charge of theft. Amit Kumar, a resident of Kotli Khas village, told the police that the residents of his village, Vijay Kumar, alias Monu and Gurjit Singh alias Sodi, allegedly stole gold jewelery and cash from his house. OC
DC: Moong to be procured on MSP
Hoshiarpur: DC Sandeep Hans said moong will be procured at MSP by Markfed. He said as per the instructions of the government, this procurement would be done at the rate of Rs 7,275 per quintal and the time for procurement was fixed till July 31.
