Jalandhar, January 22
Deputy Commissioner Vishesh Sarangal today held a meeting to review and finalise the arrangements for the Republic Day celebrations.
Sarangal took stock of the preparations and gave directions to officials for making foolproof arrangements. He said Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema would unfurl the National Flag at Guru Gobind Singh Stadium. A full dress rehearsal would be held at the stadium on January 24.
He said the contingents of the BSF, CRPF, Armed Police, PAP, Punjab Police, NCC, Home Guards, Girls’ Guides and Scouts would be part of the march past. A PT show would also be exhibited by students. Students of various schools and colleges of the district would perform cultural items. Tableaux on different themes would also be part of the event.
The DC also asked the officials to make requisite arrangements for traffic diversion, parking of vehicles, security arrangements and other facilities during the Republic Day function. He directed the Municipal Corporation to ensure proper cleanliness around the venue.
Further, he asked the Health Department to depute medical teams along with medicines and permanent ambulance to facilitate the people during the event. He also asked the PSPCL to ensure uninterrupted power supply during the celebrations.
