The government is under fire for its failure in the education sector as Shaheed Bhagat Singh Smart School near the Maqsudan bypass in Jalandhar remains closed despite being built at a cost of crores. This issue was highlighted in the columns of ‘The Jalandhar Tribune’ a few days ago.
Former BJP Rajya Sabha MP Avinash Rai Khanna has taken cognizance of the matter, calling it a gross violation of children's right to education. He has raised the issue before the State Human Rights Commission, demanding accountability from the government.
Khanna accused the Aam Aadmi Party-led government of misleading the public with grand promises while failing to deliver on the ground. He termed the school's closure a glaring failure in the education sector, directly affecting students’ futures.
Khanna urged the commission to seek a report from the state government explaining why the school remains shut. He also demanded immediate steps to reopen it. Additionally, he called for an inquiry into whether other government schools in Punjab are also closed and sought a report on vacant teaching positions, pressing for their urgent fulfilment.
