Priyanka, a Class X student of Indrapuri Government Girls Smart Senior Secondary School, Herian, has brought laurels to Nawanshahr district by bagging the first position in English-speaking competition at the state level for the second time.

School in-charge Sanjeev Kumar said the video prepared by Priyanka on topic ‘Different ways to invite someone’ under the guidance of her English teacher Seema Kalsi was adjudged the best at the state-level competition.

He said Priyanka is an active member of ‘English Booster Club’, an initiative started by the Department of School Education, with a view to hone English language skills at the school level. He said different activities as well as competitions were being organised under this initiative at the district and state-level to improve language skills of students as well as to boost their confidence.

Speaking to Jalandhar Tribune, Seema Kalsi said Priyanka was fond of interacting in English and kept practising the Queen’s language whenever she got time. “She is also a very good artist. Her drawing skills are impressive and she has won many competitions in drawing too. Besides, she is equally good in studies. She comes from a very humble background, and is living with her mother and grandparents at Herian village in Nawanshahr,” she added.
