Jalandhar, August 25
There seems to be no end to daily thefts and snatching incidents in the city, with residents questioning the security situation and raising concerns about their safety.
In a recent incident, thieves targeted a grocery store in Avatar Nagar, making off with Rs 70,000 in cash and other goods. The crime occurred late Saturday night and was captured in the footage of the CCTV cameras installed inside the shop.
As per information, shopkeeper Sunny closed his store at 10 pm on Saturday, only to return the next morning to find the locks broken and the store ransacked. The cash box, which contained Rs 70,000, was emptied. The CCTV camera footage shows two suspects arriving on a motorcycle, committing the theft and fleeing from the spot.
A formal complaint has been lodged with the Division No. 5 police station. The police are scanning footage of the CCTV cameras to identify culprits. The increasing frequency of such incidents has sparked fear among local residents. One resident, Kavish Mehra, expressing concerns, said, “Commuting alone at night has become a terrifying task. The lack of security in our neighbourhoods is alarming. Every day brings news of another theft or snatching. We no longer feel safe in our own city.”
Meanwhile, officials of Division No. 5 police station said a complaint regarding theft had been received. They said a probe is on to identify the suspects. They said thieves would be arrested soon.
