Groom scholars with a holistic view, says GNDU VC at KMV convocation
Kanya Maha Vidyalaya on Friday organised its annual convocation to celebrate the completion of various academic levels of its 825 scholars.
Degrees were awarded upon completion of UG and PG level courses in humanities, sciences, commerce and IT along with vocational studies. Chief guest Dr Karamjeet Singh, vice-chancellor, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, was accorded a floral welcome on the occasion.
Dr Sushma Chawla, Dhruv Mittal, Dr Satpal Gupta and Sushila Bhagat, eminent members of KMV Managing Committee, also graced the occasion with their invaluable presence. The proceedings commenced with the traditional lighting of the ceremonial lamp and invocation to the Goddess of Learning.
KMV principal Atima Sharma Dwivedi congratulated Dr Karamjeet Singh on taking over the reins of GNDU as vice-chancellor. She read out a detailed report enumerating the college’s achievements at the national as well as international level in fields like academics, co-academics, research, sports, NCC and placements. She highlighted that demand for new skill sets among the young generation is on the rise owing to rapidly changing socio-economic environment and job markets. Such challenges posed by contemporary times can only be met with transformational, progressive measures in education to prepare the young people for a successful career and life ahead, the principal said.
“The academic autonomy of KMV has given a clear field to implement upgraded relevant curriculum, innovative teaching methodologies, focus on learning outcomes, exposure to the larger world, global standards in teaching, internships and international partnerships with academia and industry,” Prof Dwivedi maintained.
Chander Mohan, president, Arya Shiksha Mandal, congratulated the students on the completion of a significant phase of their lives. He stressed that all educational institutions and policymakers must resolve to bring about transformative changes in educational landscape to equip today’s youth to combat the challenges being posed by AI-powered tools.
The GNDU VC sharedviews on character-building features embedded in education. Quoting from the great seers in his address, Dr Karamjeet Singh elucidated on the need to groom scholars as holistically developed individuals who must be equipped with courage to challenge their comfort zones.
