On the eve of National Press Day, the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, Guru Nanak Dev University, Regional Campus, organised a guest lecture of Rajiv Bhaskar, here on Friday.

Sharing his 30-year-old experience in the field of journalism, Rajiv said the knowledge of any language, nose for news, awareness of surroundings and doing homework thoroughly could help a person become a successful journalist.

In his address, he motivated the students to opt for journalism as their career because it was challenging, demanding and the best way to serve society.

He said as a journalist, one could always remain close to the earnest troubles and issues which the people were facing and could somewhere help find a solution to the same. He said journalism was the safest profession for girls because it empower them.

Rajiv also talked about the impact of journalism on society. Earlier, Dr Namarta Joshi, head of the department, welcomed the guest. She explained the importance of National Press Day and talked about the working of the media in the present time.

She said the media was playing a positive role and was very progressive in nature. — OC
