Body of Gurashman Singh, who passed away in UK, brought back to Jalandhar for last rites

Nearly 26 days after Model Town-based Gurashman Singh Bhatia (23) had gone missing in the UK, his body was flown to the city today. His last rites were performed this morning at the Model Town cremation ground.

Residents, representatives of various business groups and members of leading Sikh organisations attended the funeral of the youth and expressed condolences with the family. Bhatia had gone to London last year to pursue PG in banking and finance from Loughborough University. Unfortunately, he died on his birthday after a mishap. His father Harpreet Singh had received a video call from him on the day which got snapped. He could not be contacted after that. The family got in touch with the London police to trace him. Harpreet Singh had gone to London to get his son’s body back.

Delhi-based BJP leader Manjinder Singh Sirsa had flagged the issue to External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar to take up the matter with the authorities concerned. SGPC chief Harjinder Dhami also visited the place of Bhatias, who run a popular toy shop in Model Town.
