Gurdaspur Diary: Vaccine drive for lumpy skin disease

A cow vaccination drive launched by Deputy Commissioner Himanshu Aggarwal and PHSC Chairman Raman Bahl.

The Animal Husbandry Department has started a vaccination campaign to protect cows from lumpy skin disease (LSD). Deputy Commissioner Himanshu Aggarwal and Chairman of Punjab Health Systems Corporation, Raman Bahl, appealed to the cattle breeders of the district to make the vaccination drive a success. DC Aggarwal said the Punjab government had provided 1,80,000 vaccine doses to prevent the disease in Gurdaspur district. He appealed to all the animal breeders of the district to fully cooperate with the teams of the department in the vaccination drive to prevent lumpy skin disease. Dr Sham Singh, Deputy Director, Animal Husbandry Department, Gurdaspur, informed that vaccines have been delivered to all veterinary institutions in the district. He added that vaccination does not affect the production of milk, rather the animal stays healthy by avoiding the disease. Dr Sham Singh said that two years ago, the disease had caused financial loss to the livestock keepers. “Ever since then, these vaccines are being administered every year,” he said. Dr Harpreet Singh Dhillon, Assistant Director, Dr Jaswinder Singh, Senior Veterinary Officer, Dr Gurdev Singh, Dr Neelam, Dr Jitinder Jyoti, Amarpreet Singh, Navjot Singh and other staff members from the department were present on the occasion.

Amandeep Jayantipur

Batala’s youngster on the block in politics

Politics is in his blood. Amandeep Jayantipuria, brimming with exuberance one normally associates with youngsters his age, is the new kid on the block in Batala politics. But he is grappling with a problem. He wants to make a foray into the electoral arena but feels that the time is not opportune. That is why he wants to do something meaningful for his city before he takes the plunge. His philanthropic initiatives have become the talk of the town. Belonging to an affluent family of Jayantipur village, 8 km from Batala, Amandeep has opened two offices, both in the heart of the city, easily accessible to the young, old and the infirm. These are located at Chanda Hotel and Simbal chowk. After completing his degree in Law from Panjab University, he did his B.Tech. He is the son of Rajinder Budhwar, a former Chairman of the Amritsar Zila Parishad. For the last 50 years, the post of Sarpanch (village headman) has been with the family. Under these circumstances, Amandeep could have been the prodigal son. However, destiny had other plans for him. Residents requiring health treatment in hospitals outside Batala can knock on the doors of Chanda Hotel. So can kids who want to study but do not have the resources. Students wanting to pursue higher education know he will rescue them. People needing police intervention to solve their disputes no longer approach the cops. Instead, they approach Amandeep. His decision is “full and final” for both sides. His comparisons with Robin Hood are not out of context, but there exists a slight difference. Robin Hood looted the rich to help the poor in Sherwood Forest of Nottinghamshire. Amandeep helps the poor but only with money from his family’s coffers and lockers. People close to him claim that by the time the 2027 assembly elections are announced, he will be the perfect candidate to represent and serve Batala. Aristotle’s words ring hard and true in his mind: “The desire of power in excess caused the angels to fall; the desire of excess knowledge caused man to fall.” But in charity, there is no excess. Neither can an angel nor a man court danger by it. Batala wishes all the best to its rising son! (Ravi Dhaliwal)
