Under the leadership of Civil Surgeon Dr Sanjeev Bhagat, the Health Department carried out an extensive inspection of potential mosquito-breeding water sources as part of the ongoing “Disha Friday Dry Day” campaign in Kapurthala. The initiative aims to curb the spread of dengue and other vector-borne diseases by eliminating stagnant water sources that serve as breeding grounds for mosquitoes.
During the inspection, health teams thoroughly checked coolers, overhead water tanks, flower pots, earthen vessels and other areas where water tends to collect. The teams identified and immediately destroyed mosquito larvae found at several sites to prevent further breeding.
In addition to field inspection, the Health Department officials also conducted awareness sessions with college staff members, educating them about preventive measures against dengue and emphasising the importance of maintaining a clean and dry environment to avoid the breeding of mosquitoes.
Speaking on the occasion, Civil Surgeon Dr Sanjeev Bhagat highlighted the department’s commitment to community health and stressed the crucial role of public participation in maintaining hygiene and eliminating stagnant water. He reiterated that such proactive drives are instrumental in keeping dengue cases under control, especially during the post-monsoon season.
The inspection team included District Immunisation Officer (DIO) Randeep Singh, Superintendent Ram Avtar, SI Gurbir, Davinder Singh and Hardeep Singh, along with other Health Department staff members.
The Health Department appealed to the public to regularly inspect their surroundings, overturn unused containers, clean water tanks weekly, and ensure that water does not accumulate in or around homes, schools or workplaces. Continuous community cooperation, officials emphasised, is key to defeating the threat of dengue.
