The Health Department celebrated ‘Dhiyan Di Lohri’ at the Civil Surgeon’s office on Thursday. On the occasion, newborn daughters and their parents participated. Civil Surgeon Dr Jagdeep Chawla gave gifts to the parents of the newborn girls congratulating them on Lohri. The students of Shaheed Babu Labh Singh Memorial Nursing School, Civil Hospital, Jalandhar, performed giddha during the celebrations while singing Lohri songs.
The Civil Surgeon honoured 23 newborn girls and their mothers on the auspicious occasion of this ceremony and gave message of treating girls and boys equally. He said awareness is spread under PCPNDT Act by the Health Department, and awareness activities on “Beti Bachao Beti Padhao” are also conducted by the department from time to time.
District Family Welfare Officer-cum-Nodal Officer PCPNDT Act Dr Mandeep Kaur said parents need to have positive thinking towards girls.
Assistant Civil Surgeon Dr Jyoti Phukela, District Family Welfare Officer Dr Mandeep Kaur, District Vaccination Officer Rakesh Kumar Chopra, DDHO Dr Baljit Kaur Ruby, Deputy Medical Commissioner Jyoti Sharma, SMO Dr Gurmeet Lal, District Health Officer Sukhwinder Singh, Assistant Health Officer Satjit Kaur, Principal SBLS Nursing School Paramjit Kaur, Mass Media Officer Gurdeep Singh, Deputy Mass Media Officer Asim Sharma, district PNDT coordinator Deepak Baporia, district BCC coordinator Neeraj Sharma and staff members of the Health Department were also present.
Meanwhile, Dhiyan Di Lohri was also celebrated at the Civil Surgeon Office, Kapurthala. Civil Surgeon Dr Rita Bala said girls are not inferior to boys in any field. Society cannot be imagined without them. On the occasion, 21 newborn girls were given Lohri and they were also distributed warm clothes, peanuts and rewris. On the occasion, Assistant Civil Surgeon Dr Annu Sarma, DDHO Dr Kapil Dogra, DFPO Dr Ashok Kumar, SMO Dr Sandeep Dhawan, Superintendent Ram Avtar, Deputy Mass Media Officer Sarandeep Singh, Deputy Mass Media Officer Sukhdayal Singh, DPM Vinay Mallan, Ram Singh, Nursing Sister Surinder Kaur, BEE Ravinder Jassal, Reema Upal, Vishal Garg, FSO Prabhjot Kaur, Pawandeep Singh, a large number of staff members were present.
The Animal Protection Foundation and Red Cross Society, Jalandhar, collaboratively celebrated the event of Lohri with more than 100 children of slum areas. Both the organisations hosted a gathering with slum children at Nico Park. DC Vishesh Sarangal also joined the event and congratulated both the organisations.
