Jaspreet Singh, a 2014-batch IAS officer, on Monday took charge as the new Deputy Commissioner. He listed health, education, law and order, green cover, more responsive governance as his priorities.

Jaspreet Singh, who was earlier Deputy Commissioner, Mansa, reached the District Administration Complex this morning where he was accorded the guard of honour. After assuming the charge, the Deputy Commissioner pointed out that projects pertaining to infrastructure, rural development and increasing the area under green cover would also be focused, besides apprising the masses about the recently added citizen-specific services, including passport-related ones, to the list.

Stressing that pendency of works in offices will also be resolved within a few days, Jaspreet Singh said the District Administration in consultation with the line departments would set a timeline for issuance of NOCs as per the policy to process the complete cases for sale deed purpose. The DC said a plan would also be worked out to address the encroachments in the city and rural areas in the larger public interest.

To ease out the traffic congestion at local PAP Chowk, the DC asked the officials concerned to expedite the process for construction of flyover towards Amritsar side from the road leading from BSF Chowk. The pending issues of construction and other projects would also be taken up with the National Highways Authority of India as the maximum works were in process already, said Jaspreet Singh, who is well aware of the local issues owing to his previous stint here as ADC, Jalandhar.

Emphasising that the legacy of zero pendency in Sewa Kendras will also be maintained as being made earlier, Jaspreet Singh said a number of new services had been included in the existing list at Sewa Kendras. The services related to passport will also be publicised so that people could avail this facility at respective centres, said the DC, adding that constant monitoring would also be done for ongoing projects so that these could be accomplished well within stipulated time frame. The schemes sponsored by the Centre government would also be supervised so that proper utilisation of funds could be ensured, he added.
