The Health Department has seized 50 kg cheese and 10 kg khoya that were allegedly adulterated during a special check in the district.

District Health Officer Dr Jatinder Kumar Bhatia said with the arrival of the festival season, the health department was conducting raids and checking the food quality. He said during checking around 3 am, officials searched two vehicles plying on the Garhshankar-Chandigarh road.

They seized khoya and cheese from drivers of two vehicles under the suspicion that the items were adulterated. He said after the seizure, the items were sent to the laboratory for testing, adding that necessary action would be taken after the report comes.

He said the cheese and khoya were being supplied from Ludhiana via Phagwara to the adjoining towns. Food officers Vivek Kumar, Avinav Khosla, Ram Lubhai and Harjit Singh were present during the checking.
