The Punjab and Haryana High Court has issued a notice of motion for stay in the case of setting up a garbage dump on 66-Feet Road in the city. Giving the information, Amit Taneja, president, United Residents Forum, said the hearing was today in the court of the HC Chief Justice.

“It is our first victory and we will fight till we get justice,” Taneja stated.

The members of the Forum want to leave no stone unturned in pursuit of their goal. The members have also decided to approach the National Green Tribunal (NGT) and Human Rights Commission against the Municipal Corporation (MC). “We cannot let the authorities ruin a locality like this. What is the point of giving RERA (Real Estate Regulatory Authority) certificate then if they will set up garbage dumps? The point was also raised in court,” Taneja said.

“Anmol Rattan Sidhu is our lawyer. He has served as an Advocate General of Punjab and is a former Assistant Solicitor General of India,” he added.

The members of the Forum have been protesting against the decision. They say this was a disastrous step as it would make the residents suffer as the area would become prone to disease outbreaks. It would be problematic for everyone, they rued.

Recently, a protest march was also organised by members of the Forum in pursuit of their demands.
