In his address, Lieutenant General Chandpuri highlighted Punjab’s significant contribution to the armed forces, noting that while the state accounts for only 2 percent of India’s population, soldiers from Punjab constitute over 10 percent of the Indian Army, reflecting the state’s remarkable military legacy. He added that Hoshiarpur district has one of the highest numbers of soldiers and veterans in the country. The installation of the T-55 tank, he said, will further foster patriotism, discipline, and national service among the youth.

He also recalled the heroic deeds carried out jointly by the Army and the people of Punjab during Operation Sindoor and the state’s floods. Lieutenant General Chandpuri mentioned that efforts are underway to install a MiG-21 aircraft in Hoshiarpur in the future, marking another milestone.

MP Dr Raj Kumar Chabbewal described the installation of the battle tank, which played a decisive role in the 1971 war, as a historic achievement. He said it would educate future generations about the Indian Army’s glorious history while awakening a sense of patriotism and dedication.

MLA Bram Shankar Jimpa emphasised that the T-55 tank represents not only military heritage but also the courage, sacrifice, and patriotism of the Indian Army. He expressed gratitude to the Indian Army and the Sonalika Industries Group for their support in making the installation possible. He added that a light and sound show would soon be introduced at Green View Park to inspire youth and transform the site into a major centre of patriotism.

Deputy Commissioner Ashika Jain said that the installation of the prestigious T-55 war trophy is a matter of pride for the district and credited MLA Jimpa for his continuous efforts in realising this initiative. She dedicated the ceremony to the martyred soldiers whose sacrifices have kept the country safe and strong.
