Saksham Vashisht, a 20-year-old youth from Hoshiarpur, has secured the first rank across India in the Level-1 examination of the Certificate Course for Accountants of Panchayat and Municipal Bodies, scoring 96 per cent marks. This is the highest score ever achieved by the youngest student in this exam to date. Candidates aged 18 to 60 participate in this examination. His extraordinary achievement has created an atmosphere of joy not only in his college, but also Punjab.

Last year, Saksham had passed the sixth semester of B.Com (Honors) at Government College, Hoshiarpur, with 90 per cent marks, securing a rank in Punjab University as well. This examination was conducted by the Board for Local Bodies Accountants Certification under the ICAI Accounting Research Foundation.

This is the first time a student from Punjab has achieved the top rank in the Level-1 exam nationwide.The examination centre for the north zone was established in Chandigarh and the exam took place on January 9.
