In a step toward environmental sustainability, the District Administration of Hoshiarpur today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Bengaluru-based non-profit organisation, Centre for Study of Science, Technology and Policy (CSTEP). The collaboration aims to develop a comprehensive roadmap to transform Hoshiarpur into a net-zero and climate-resilient city.
Deputy Commissioner Aashika Jain described the partnership as a historic move toward sustainable development in the district. She said that under the initiative, CSTEP will prepare a detailed climate action plan for Hoshiarpur, including a digital survey and solar rooftop potential mapping. The digital mapping will assess the solar energy potential of buildings across the city, facilitating greater adoption of solar power in the future.
DC Jain added that the district administration aims to make Hoshiarpur Punjab’s first climate-resilient model district in the coming years. She noted that the project will enhance energy efficiency, reduce carbon emissions, and significantly contribute to environmental conservation. Highlighting the importance of community participation, Jain said the initiative will encourage citizens to adopt cleaner, greener and more sustainable lifestyles.
Assistant Commissioner Oishee Mandal, present at the occasion, appreciated the initiative, calling it a commendable step toward securing a sustainable environment for future generations. Representatives from CSTEP, including Saptak Ghosh, were also present during the MoU signing.
