The Jalandhar Commissionerate Police have arrested a Hoshiarpur man in connection with a hawala racket and seized about Rs 3 crore and $3,100 from his possession.

At a press conference here, Joint Commissioner of Police Sandeep Sharma said the police acted on a tip-off, which led to the operation near Bashirpura T-point. The police team conducted a check and intercepted a Creta car late last night. The suspect, identified as Puneet Sood, alias Gandhi, was arrested while allegedly on his way to deliver the hawala money.

During the vehicle search, officers found Rs 2.93 crore in Indian currency and $3,100. An FIR has been registered against Sood at the New Baradari police station.

The Joint CP highlighted the police’s ongoing efforts in tracing the origin and destination of hawala money. “We are diligently tracking both forward and backward linkages to determine the sources and intended recipients of these funds,” he said. Initial reports indicated that Sood was transporting the money from Delhi. Initially, he travelled by a bus and later switched to the car, he added.
