Hoshiarpur: Rahul Dhiman of Hoshiarpur has been honoured with the iVolunteer Award by iVolunteer organisation during an event in Chennai. The award is given annually by the organisation in four categories. Rahul was honoured in the category of ‘Youth Champion’, which is an honourary award category open to individuals under the age of 23 years for exemplary display of commitment to spread volunteerism in the country. The award was given away by Lauren Lovelace from the Council of Public Diplomacy and Public Affairs. Rahul started involving in social service when he was studying in Class XII. At that time, he tied radium belts on the necks of stray animals to prevent accidents. OC

Award for former football player

Phagwara: Former international football player and former coach Sukhwinder Singh Sukhi was awarded Lifetime Achievement award by the International Sports Association headed by Jaspal Singh at a function organised here on Sunday. Sukhi has been the coach of the national football team and the JCT footbal team. Prominent footballers like Deepak Mandal, Jai Paul Achori and Sunil Shetri (all Arjun Awardees) had got training from Sukhi. Prof Sital Singh, Balram Vaid, Jaswant Singh Surinder Singh,Varinderjit Parmar, Davinder Singh Shergill and Satnam Singh were also present on the occassion. OC

65-yr-old killed in road mishap

Phagwara: A 65-year-old man was killed on the spot while three others sustained injuries when the car in which they were traveling rammed into a stone lying on the roadside near Jamalpur on the Ludhiana-Phagwara national highway here on Sunday night. The victims, identified as Neeraj, his father Pawan and mother Asha, were admitted to the Civil Hospital. OC
