The Commissionerate Police, Jalandhar, in coordination with the Municipal Corporation today demolished an illegal structure built on government land and allegedly funded by drug money.

The encroachment, located in the Rama Mandi locality, was razed as part of the efforts under the "Yudh Nashian Virudh" initiative to eliminate illegal structures linked to drug trade activities.

Commissioner of Police Dhanpreet Kaur said the MC had received information about the illegal construction by a notorious drug smuggler Rajan, alias Najar, resident of Baba Budhaji Nagar, currently lodged in the jail. The property was reportedly built using proceeds from his illegal drug trade, she added.

Acting promptly, Municipal Corporation and police teams swung into action and demolished the encroached structure, sending a strong message that drug-related activities will not be tolerated in the city.

Pointing out further, she said the accused was a habitual offender with a total of nine cases registered against him under the NDPS Act, Excise Act and other criminal sections. This action marks a significant step in dismantling the financial network of drug peddlers and ensuring accountability.

The ongoing operation continues to gain the significant momentum as the authorities intensify their efforts to combat drug-related crimes across the city. This drive targets not only the drug peddlers, but also illegal structures, properties and hideouts that enable such crimes to thrive.

Earlier this month, as part of this operation, the authorities took decisive action in Bhargo Camp and Rama Mandi, where illegal constructions linked to notorious drug traffickers were demolished.
