For daily wager Pargat Singh, the dream of owning a home became reality just two months ago, after years of relentless hard work. But that dream was short-lived. His newly built house was reduced to rubble by the recent devastating floods that swept through Baupur Jadid village.

Today, a visibly distraught Pargat Singh, accompanied by his brother Major Singh and relative Charanjit Singh, was seen seeking solace at village gurdwara.

“We’ve lost everything. I had two acres of land and the entire crop is gone. It’s heartbreaking,” Pargat said, his voice heavy with emotion.

His brother Major Singh also saw his home collapsed under the fury of floodwaters. With no shelter of their own, the family is now staying at the residence of farmer leader Paramjit Singh.

“Paramjit has been a great support. Right now, we are living with him and have sent our children to stay with relatives,” said Charanjit Singh, trying to maintain a sense of optimism amid the tragedy. “We are hopeful that things will turn around. We’ve left everything to God.”

The Singh family is among other flood-hit victims in Sultanpur Lodhi region, where homes have been destroyed, and crops flattened, leaving families with no source of income and a long road to recovery.
