In the Baupur Mand area, the Beas river’s change in course has started causing damage to several houses. Large cracks have appeared in the walls, forcing residents to evacuate their homes. Using a boat provided by Rajya Sabha Member Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal, belongings from two houses were loaded and safely transported to a secure location.

Gurvinder Singh, a flood-affected resident of Mubarakpur, shared that the river is now flowing directly in front of his house. The strong current is hitting his house head-on, shaking its foundations and causing severe cracks in the walls. He said that since early this morning, the house began collapsing.

He said that six houses in total — including his own — have been damaged due to the altered flow of the Beas. He added that if Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal had not sent his rescue boat in time, their belongings would have been washed away in the flood.

Despite heavy rain in flood-hit areas today, Seechewal continued delivering meals (prasada) to the affected families.

To address the shortage of cooking gas cylinders in flood-affected areas, Seechewal has been providing free, filled cylinders to those in need. “Whatever the people request, we try to fulfil it,” he said. Today, 15 cylinders were distributed.
