Residents of Guru Gobind Singh Avenue and Surya Enclave, situated opposite the Indian Oil depot, are grappling with the persistent problem of unauthorised parking of tankers and trucks carrying gas and petrol on the service road, stretching from Akshardham Mandir to Lamba Pind Chowk, the main entry points to these residential areas.

They claimed that the daily occurrence of accidents, primarily at night, has raised serious concern amongst them.

Residents led by society’s president Rajan Gupta and others, highlighted the lack of safety measures for the parked tankers, including the absence of proper lighting indicators, making the situation perilous, especially during foggy conditions.

“Despite numerous complaints, a permanent solution has not been found, and the situation remains unresolved,” they added.

Expressing frustration, Gupta pointed out that the traffic safety committee, under the directive of the Deputy Commissioner, had earlier issued orders to restrict these trucks, but no tangible action has been taken.

“Furthermore, despite directives from the Chief Minister’s office to the traffic police to address the issue, actions taken were short-lived, and the problem persists,” he added.

The residents assert that the local traffic police are well aware of the problem but suspect that a strong lobby of tanker owners is preventing a permanent resolution. “Urgently seeking intervention, we have once again implored the police to take necessary steps to alleviate the problem and ensure the safety of residents of the nearby localities,” they added.
