Kapurthala police have registered two separate cases under the Excise Act and recovered a significant quantity of illicit liquor during enforcement drives carried out in different parts of the district.
In the first case, registered under Sections 61-1-14 of the Excise Act, police acted on information received from a special informer regarding an abandoned vehicle suspected to be carrying illicit liquor. Assistant Sub-Inspector Jasdeep Singh stated that the informer disclosed that a silver-coloured Innova car bearing registration number PB08 DF 2892 was parked in suspicious circumstances near wheat fields along the Vijola–Injampur road.
During the search, police recovered 22 cartons containing a total of 264 bottles of illicit liquor branded as “First Choice Punjab.”
The vehicle was found in an abandoned condition, and no person was present at the scene at the time of recovery. .
The accused named in the case include Amritpal Singh, son of Gurmeet Singh, and Jaspal Singh, son of Gurbakhsh Singh, both residents of Boot village falling under Subhanpur police station. Police officials said both accused were later granted bail as per legal provisions, while further investigation is underway to trace the source and intended destination of the liquor.
In a separate incident, another case under Sections 61-1-14 of the Excise Act was registered at Sadar Kapurthala police station following a raid conducted on the basis of a tip-off from a special informer. The police team received information that illicit liquor was being stored at a specific location in Lakhan Kalan area.
During the search, police recovered four cartons containing 48 bottles of illicit liquor identified as “First Choice Whisky.” The liquor was allegedly recovered from the possession of Makhan Singh, son of Sajan Singh, a resident of Lakhan Kalan under Sadar Kapurthala police station. The accused was arrested on the spot, and a case was registered against him under the Excise Act. Police confirmed that Makhan Singh remains in custody and will be produced before the court as per procedure.
