In an initiative to update regional medical professionals on the latest trends and practices in liver health and surgical procedures, the Indian Medical Association (IMA), Phagwara, in collaboration with PGI Jalandhar, organised a Continuing Medical Education (CME) session here last night. The event drew enthusiastic participation from more than 60 doctors representing various specialities from Phagwara and neighbouring areas.

The session featured in-depth discussions on some of the most pressing issues affecting liver health today. Dr Alok Sehgal began the evening by addressing the practical aspects of managing jaundice. He spoke extensively about diagnostic approaches, clinical red flags and appropriate treatment protocols for different types of jaundice, ensuring that general practitioners and specialists alike were updated on evidence-based practices.

Following this, Dr Amit Singhal delivered a comprehensive lecture on fatty liver disease, a condition rapidly rising in prevalence across all age-groups. He highlighted how sedentary lifestyles, fast food consumption and increasing alcohol use are major contributors to the growing burden of liver diseases. The CME continued with an engaging presentation by leading gastrosurgeon Dr Tanvir Singh who spoke about the clinical approach to gall bladder removal surgeries. IMA Phagwara president Dr Tushar Aggarwal, while addressing the gathering, emphasised the critical role that a healthy diet and disciplined lifestyle play in maintaining overall well-being, especially liver function. He encouraged fellow doctors to act as health educators for the community, spreading awareness about lifestyle-related diseases. IMA secretary Dr Poonam took the opportunity to caution the medical fraternity and the public against the growing trend of self-medication and use of unverified herbal supplements.
