For the prevention of cervical cancer, preventive vaccination is administered to a girl child in the age-group of 9 to 14 years. Doctors said the immunisation takes care of the disease in the later years or after the age of 40 years. The success rate of the immunisation is almost 98 per cent.

Dr SPS Grover said the vaccine normally costs about Rs 3,800 at market rate but is administered for free at the camp held at the hospital by Rotary Club Jalandhar West. It is administered in two doses. The second dose is given six months after the first dose and is done only with the consent of the guardian or the parent of the girl child.
