A woman identified as Usha Rani was killed in a road mishap yesterday when an auto-rickshaw she was travelling in was allegedly hit by a speeding Scorpio (four-wheeler) in Nawanshahr.

Complainant Madan Lal from Sadar Banga in his statement to the police said he and his wife Usha Rani were going to their relatives. He said, “My nephew was to come with us. So, I and my nephew rode on a bike while my wife boarded an auto-rickshaw. I was following the auto-rickshaw on the bike. Suddenly, a Scorpio coming at a high speed drove past us and hit the auto-rickshaw. The three-wheeler overturned due to the impact of collision.”

The complainant said he could hear screams of his wife and other passengers in the auto-rickshaw. He said, “Passersby helped us take the injured to a hospital. My wife was seriously hurt and was declared brought dead at the hospital.”
