In Brief: 3 arrested for encroachment
Phagwara: The Mehatpur police have arrested three villagers on the charge of encroaching panchayat land of Baghela village. The accused have been identified as Swaran Singh of Dharma Dian Chhana village, Charan Singh of Umrewal Bille village and Buta Singh of Vehran village. The District Development and Panchayat Officer and village panchayat had complained to the SSP that the accused had encroached panchayat land. A case has been registered against the accused.
Fazilka man held for theft
Phagwara: The police have arrested a Fazilka man for stealing clothes from a shop. The accused has been identified as Rannjit Singh, alias Kalas, a of Hoja Gundarr village. Satnam Singh complained to the police that the accused and his accomplice barged into a boutique of his wife on September 21 in the early morning and stole 30 suits. A case has been registered against the accused, and Balwant Singh of Beettlan village, who is absconding.
Man nabbed for murder bid
Phagwara: The Nurmahal police have arrested a person, including a woman, on the charge of murder bid and rioting. The accused has been identified as Harri of Sooraja village in Goraya. Manprit, alias Mannu, of Pasla village had complained to the police that the accused and his accomplices waylaid his uncle Chamkaur Lal and attacked him with sharp-edged weapons, injuring him seriously. A case has been registered against the accused.
ASI killed in road mishap
Phagwara: An Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of the Punjab Police was killed when the motorcycle he was riding was hit by a speeding bus near village Wadhala on Monday night. The deceased was identified as Ram Sharan, posted in PCR branch of Phagwara. The accident occurred when the deceased was coming to Phagwara. He was brought to a nearby hospital but was declared brought dead by the treating doctors.
