A man was killed on the spot when a speeding vehicle hit his cycle near the Palahai road underbridge on Thursday night. The deceased was identified as Raj Balum of Kirpa Nagar, Phagwara. Vehicle driver managed to flee after hitting the deceased. The police have registered a case and handed over the body to his family members after the post-mortem examination.
Four ‘drug peddlers’ held
The police have arrested four drug peddlers and recovered 17 gm of heroin and 198 intoxicated tablets from their possession on Thursday night. The arrested accused were identified as Pawan Kumar of Chhaj Colony, Phagwara, Shinda of village Darvesh, Balbir Kumar of Kirpa Nagar, Phagwara, and Rohit Mahey of Mahilpur. As many as 53 tablets were recovered from Pawan, 5 gm heroin from Shinda,12 gm heroin and 100 tablets from Balbir and 45 tablets from Rohit. The police have impounded a car from Balbir. Four different cases have been registered against them.
Man arrested for snatching
The police have arrested a Shahkot miscreant on the charge of snatching a woman's earrings. The accused has been identified as Kiranjit Singh, alias Billa, of Mullewal Khehra village. Anju Bala of Guru Teg Bahadar Nagar had complained to the police that the accused snatched her earrings on March 10. A case had been registered against the accused and his accomplice Jaskaran of the same village who is still absconding.
Man held for fake woman ID
The police have arrested a Ludhiana resident on the charges of creating fake ID of a woman on Hello App and criminal conspiracy. The accused has been identified as Sukhpreet Singh of Ghulal village. The victim of Umarpur village had complained to police that the accused created her fake ID as "Daljit Faror" on a phone number on Hello App and uploaded her photographs and thus tried to discredit her. A case was registered against the accused.
Man held for stealing bike
The Mehatpur police have arrested a miscreant on the charge of stealing a motorcycle. The accused has been identified as Jaj Singh, alias Karan, of Chak Bahmannia village in Shahkot. The police have received an information that the accused is a habitual thief and indulged in stealing motorcycles and coming to sell a stolen bike and was arrested at a naka. A case had been registered against the accused and recovered a stolen two-wheeler from him.
Veterans to protest today
A meeting was held by ex-Army men under the leadership of Captain Amarjit Singh Gulpur and Subedar Kewal Singh against the brutal beating of a Colonel and his son by the Punjab Police. At the meeting, it was decided to hold a peaceful protest at Banga Chowk on Saturday at 9 am against the incident.
