In Brief: Lawyers observe ‘No Work Day’

Phagwara: Following a call by the Bar Association, Rupnagar, all lawyers belonging to the Bar Association, Phagwara, headed by its president Karanjot Singh Jhikka, on Friday observed ‘No Work Day’ and condemned the act allegedly committed against advocate Hardeep Singh Bassi of Rupnagar. However, matters in the family court were concluded through proxy counsels.

Minor girl abducted

Phagwara: The police have registered a case against an unidentified person on the charges of abducting 15-year-old daughter of Dalip Kumar of Kherra village. The minor, who studying in Class X, went to school on October 21 but did not return home. SP Bhatti said the police have registered a missing report.

Couple dupes man of Rs 6lakh

Phagwara: Following a complaint by Surjit Singh of Sanghowal (Phillaur) village, the police have registered a case under Section 420 and 406 of IPC and Punjab Travel Professions Regulation Act against a husband-wife duo on for duping the complainant of Rs 6,17,500 on the pretext of sending him to the UK. SP Rupinder Kaur Bhatti said the accused, Jatinder Singh and his wife Harjinder Kaur of Sultanpur Lodhi, but presently residing in AGI Flat near Haveli.

Man booked for extortion

Phagwara: The Lohian Khas police have booked a Tarn Taran villager on the charge of extortion. Investigating Officer Balwindar Singh said the accused was identified as Satnam Singh, alias Satta, a resident of Naushehra Pannuan village, Tarn Taran. Avtar Singh, a resident of Kotli Kamboj village, complained that the accused made a WhatsApp call to him, demanding Rs 50 lakh as ransom money. A case under Section 308(5) of the BNS was registered against him.

2 booked for burning stubble

Phagwara: The Nakodar city police have booked two villagers for violating an order duly promulgated by a public servant by burning paddy stubble. Investigating Officer (IO) Kulwindar Singh said the suspects had been identified as Harbans Singh and Makhann Singh, residents of Pandori Khas village. Nakodar Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Lal Vishwash directed cops to act against villagers for burning stubble in the fields, violating an order by the Jalandhar Deputy Commissioner. The IO said a case under Section 223 of the BNS was registered against the accused.

Three held for breaking ATM

Phagwara: The Nakodar police arrested three miscreants involved in breaking an ATM and snatching. DSP Sukhpal Singh said Rohini Sharma, manager of IDBI Bank in Nakodar, reported an attempt to break into an ATM. Acting swiftly, police apprehended Rohit Kumar and recovered a rod, a screwdriver and stolen jewellery, including bangles, chain and other ornaments. Further investigation in the case is on.
