Phagwara: The police have arrested three liquor smugglers and recovered 52 bottles of illicit liquor from them on Saturday night. Those arrested have been identified as Sukhbir Singh resident of Kotli-Than Singh village, Amit Kumar, resident of Nigaha Mohalla, Phagwara, and Kewal Singh, a resident of Bhanoki village. 12 bottles were recovered from Sukhbir, 16 from Amit and 24 from Kewal. The police have registered cases against the arrested accused.

Tractor driver booked

Phagwara: The Mehatpur police have booked an unidentified tractor driver on the charge of causing death by negligence. Rajiv Kumar of Baloki village complained to the police that the tractor driver was driving his vehicle fast and negligently and hit the motorcycle of Deepak Kumar of the same village, killing him on the spot. Investigating officer Baljindar Singh said that a case under Section 106 (causing death by negligence), 281(fast driving on public road) and 324(4) (mischief) of the BNS had been registered against the accused.

Man arrested with stolen bike

Phagwara: The Mehatpur police have arrested a miscreant for stealing motorcycles. Investigating Officer (IO) Balkar Singh said the accused had been identified as Lovpreet Singh of Bangi Wal village. The IO said that a motorcycle was recovered from the accused. A case under Sections 303(2) (theft), 317(2) (dishonestly receiving stolen property) and 324(4) (mischief) of the BNS has been registered against the accused.

2 held for stealing donated items

Phagwara: The Nakodar Sadar police have arrested two Malerkotla-based thieves for stealing items donated at religious places. Investigating Officer (IO) Janak Raj said the accused had been identified as Nayam and Mohamad Dilshad, both residents of Malerkotla. He further said the accused were using a car to commit the crime. A case under Sections 331(4) (lurking house-trespass) and 305 (theft in dwelling house) of the BNS has been registered in this regard.

Man arrested for theft

Phagwara The Sadar Police have arrested a man involved in a theft case and recovered goods from his possession. Sharing details, SP Rupinder Kaur Bhatti said the accused had been identified as Bikram Kumar, a resident of Khalwara village near Phagwara. According to the police, they received information about a theft at a religious place at Wajidowal village. Acting on it, a police team led by Sadar SHO Balwinder Singh Bhullar conducted a swift operation and apprehended the accused. During the investigation, the police recovered an inverter, batteries and a gas cylinder that had been stolen from the site. The accused is currently in police custody and further investigation is underway.
