In Brief: Two assault cop, arrested

Phagwara: The Nakodar City police have arrested two men for allegedly attacking a police officer on duty. Investigating Officer Dilbag Singh identified the accused as Mandeep Singh and Bhagat Veer Singh, both residents of Meerapur village. ASI Amrik Singh stated that he was on duty near Sharak Pur village. He said Mandeep Singh, who was driving a scooter in an inebriated state, began misbehaving and using abusive language when stopped for a check. He then called Bhagat Veer Singh, who arrived at the scene, and both men attacked the ASI and his colleague. A case has been registered against the accused and six others.

1 held for making caste remarks

Phagwara: The Nurmahal police have arrested a villager on charges of making casteist remarks and assaulting a fellow resident. DSP Sukhpal Singh said the accused, identified as Amanpreet Singh, alias Kala, of Batura village, was reported by Buta Ram, a resident of the same village. According to the complaint, Amanpreet Singh made casteist remarks against him, assaulted him, and ransacked the house of Harjindar, alias Jindi, with whom the accused had quarrelled earlier. A case has been registered.

1 held for sale of illicit liquor

Phagwara: The Bilga police arrested a villager for selling country-made illicit liquor. Investigating Officer Vijay Kumar said 25 bottles of hooch were seized from the possession of Harjit Singh, alias Jiti, a resident of Mau Sahib village. A case has been registered against him under the Punjab Excise Act.

Three snatch cash, booked

Phagwara: The Shahkot police have booked three men for allegedly assaulting and robbing a man of his cash. Investigating Officer Balveer Singh identified the accused as Jagtar Singh, Karanver Singh and Lovpreet Singh all residents of Bajwa Kalan village. Sukhwant Singh, a resident of Jagat Pur Sohal village, lodged a complaint stating that he was waylaid, assaulted, and robbed by the three men while returning home on the evening of December 31. The police have registered a case and further investigations are underway.

Meat shops to remain closed

Hoshiarpur: District Magistrate Komal Mittal has issued orders to keep the slaughterhouses and meat shops closed on the route of Nagar Kirtan from 12 noon to 3 pm on January 4 on the occasion of Gurupurb. On the request of Sant Karamjit Singh, head of Dera Gurdwara Tibba Sahib, the District Magistrate has ordered to keep the slaughterhouses and meat shops of Rahimpur Chowk on Phagwara Road in Hoshiarpur closed during the aforesaid time period.
