The food safety team led by District Health Officer Dr Jatinder Bhatia conducted a surprise checking campaign in Garhshankar here on Monday. Under the drive, grocery shops, confectionery shops and workshops were inspected, in which three samples of cheese, butter, etc, were taken and two challans were issued to those who did not meet the food hygiene standards.

The Food Safety Team included Food Safety Officer Vivek Kumar, Manish Sodhi and Abhinav Kumar along with other team members.

During the checking, halwais (sweet-makers) were instructed to maintain cleanliness, wear aprons, caps and gloves, get the workers medically examined, use colors approved by FSSAI. Everyone was also instructed to use good quality milk, curd, khoya and cheese. If a shopkeeper violates the Food Safety Act, action will be taken against him under the Food Safety Act.

The Food Safety team shared the information regarding registration and licencing that under the Food Safety and Standards Act 2006, it is very important for every food vendor, grocery vendor, milk vendor, confectioner, dairy owner and hawker to get registration and license.
