In Brief: Man arrested on charge of theft
Hoshiarpur: The police have arrested a person on the charge of theft and recovered stolen cylinder and cash worth Rs 16,000 from him. Jahani Khatoon, a resident of Chhatta Bazaar, told the police that she was out of the house. Her son was flying kites on roof of the house. During this time, an unknown person stole a full gas cylinder and cash from her room. She said the footage of the CCTV cameras installed in the house revealed that the theft was committed by Suraj Nitin Verma, a resident of Mohalla Mishra. The police registered a case and arrested the accused after recovering stolen goods from him.
3 cellphones seized from Central Jail
Hoshiarpur: The prison authorities have recovered three mobile phones during search on the Central Jail premises. Assistant Superintendent Satnam Singh, Central Jail, said during search of the chakki at a jail's block, a smartphone cellphone along with a SIM hidden in a bathroom wall was recovered. He said in the second case, a cellphone was recovered from undertrial Gurmukh Singh Gera of Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar, who was lodged in barrack No. 10. In third case, Assistant Superintendent Sukhwinder Singh said during search of the jail’s barrack No. 20, a keypad mobile phone was recovered from dustbin lying there. Further probes have been initiated after registering three cases in this connections. oc
