Indian Oil Mumbai, Indian Railway Delhi set for title clash at Surjit Hockey tourney

The title match of the 42nd Indian Oil Servo Surjit Hockey Tournament between the teams of Indian Oil Mumbai and Indian Railway Delhi will be played at the Olympian Surjit Hockey Stadium, Jalandhar. In the semi-final matches played this evening, Indian Railway Delhi defeated Indian Navy Mumbai by a margin of 2-1 and Indian Oil Mumbai defeated Bharat Petroleum Mumbai by a margin of 2-1 to make it to the final. The Indian Railway Delhi team has reached the final for the fifth time, while Indian Oil Mumbai has reached the final for the 14th time.

The chief guest of the final match, Harpal Singh Cheema, Finance Minister of Punjab, will distribute the prizes to the teams. The winning team will be given a cash prize of Rs 5.51 lakh along with the winning trophy (sponsored by Gakhal Brothers USA) and the runner-up team will be given a cash prize of Rs 2.51 lakh along with the trophy. The best player of the tournament will be given a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh. The final match will be played at 7 pm.

The first semi-final was played between Indian Railways Delhi and Indian Navy Mumbai. In the 13th minute of the game, Gursahibjit Singh of Indian Railways scored a field goal to make the score 1-0.

Indian Railways was leading 2-0 at half-time. As the score remained 2-1 till the end of the stipulated time, Indian Railways emerged as the winner and reached the final.

The second semi-final was played between last year's winner Indian Oil Mumbai and last year's runner-up Bharat Petroleum Mumbai. In the 17th minute of the game, Gurjinder Singh of Indian Oil converted a penalty corner into a goal to make the score 1-0. In the 53rd minute of the game, Talwinder Singh of Indian Oil scored a goal to make the score 2-1.
