The SSB obstacle training area was inaugurated on Friday at Sainik School Kapurthala by industrialist Daljit Cheena. Addressing the cadets as the Chief Guest, Cheena remarked, “You all are in such a school which is not just preparing you for a career, but it is preparing you for life. The routine here may seem tough at times, but it will mould you like steel.”
He commended the school for being in competent and capable hands, expressing pride in seeing better facilities being provided to students, which bring them closer to excellence. “This training area is proof of this progress,” he added.
Cheena also expressed his admiration for the GTO (Group Testing Officer) structures at the training centre. The balance beam, rope hurdles and other challenges, he noted, are not just tools for physical training, but also serve as instruments for imparting important life lessons.
He emphasised the uniqueness of Sainik School Kapurthala, stating that the cadets are isolated from the distractions of the outside world. Over the years, the school has produced not only outstanding armed forces officers but also exceptional civil servants, teachers, entrepreneurs, doctors, engineers and leaders.
Concluding his address, Cheena shared a personal connection to the school, stating, “I am an alumnus of the school (1979 to 1986), and wherever I am today as an entrepreneur in the industry, this school has contributed to it.” To show his support, he announced a donation of Rs 2,00,000 for the school’s development fund.
The function began with a warm welcome from the school’s Principal, Group Captain Madhu Sengar. The event was also attended by the school family, including Vice-Principal Commander Sandeep Singh Virk, School administrative officer Lt Col Umesh Mole and Senior Teacher Dr HS Issar.
