In a serious breach of prison discipline and security, five inmates at Kapurthala Modern Jail have been booked for assaulting jail staff during a routine search operation that uncovered banned items.
The incident, which occurred on Monday evening, has raised concerns about internal security in the high-security facility.
Assistant Superintendent of Kapurthala Modern Jail Baldev Singh led a routine inspection of the prison barracks during which contraband items and a mobile phone were recovered from inmate Sajan Singh. Following the discovery, a group of inmates reportedly confronted and attacked the wardens in an attempt to recover the seized mobile phone.
