Inquiry ordered as Jalandhar cop caught accepting 'bribe'; video goes viral

Police officials say it is too early to deem it a cash transaction

A departmental inquiry has been marked by the Jalandhar Rural police against an officer of the Maqsudan police, after a CCTV footage surfaced wherein he is allegedly seen accepting bribe.

As per information, the video is said to be of Bulandpur. Harbans Singh had gone to a house after receiving a complaint against a man, where he allegedly sought bribe to hush up the case.

The incident came to light after the video went viral today.

In the video clip, a police employee and two other people can be seen sitting in a room. Right before the cop leaves the premises, one of the seated men gets up and hands the official, what looks like a wad of cash.

However, police officials said it is too early to deem it a cash transaction. Kartarpur DSP has been tasked to hold a detailed inquiry into the matter.

Jalandhar SSP Harvinder Singh Virk said, "The ASI has been posted at the civil lines for now and an inquiry has been launched into the case. It has not been ascertained whether what has been caught on camera is a cash transaction but the probe is on and requisite action shall be taken as per findings."
