Insurance for Safai workers
Hoshiarpur: The Hoshiarpur Municipal Corporation has assured outsourced sanitation workers and sewermen of providing them an insurance cover. The assurance was made after a strike notice was issued by the sanitation workers. MC Commissioner Sandeep Singh, Mayor Surinder Kumar, Senior Deputy Mayor Praveen Saini, SE Rajinder Chopra, Executive Engineer Kuldeep Singh and Harpreet Singh held a meeting with the office-bearers of the Safai Karamcharis Association under the chairmanship of president Karanjot Adia. Kulwant Singh Saini, general secretary of the Employees Federation, Punjab, specially attended the meeting. In the meeting, the employees had given a notice of May 2 for the strike. On this, the MC Commissioner and the Mayor assured that the employees would be insured before April 27. OC
10 covid cases in Hoshiarpur
Hoshiarpur: After a respite of several days, the district on Monday recorded 10 fresh cases of Covid-19. Samples from as many as 705 persons having flu-like symptoms were taken while the reports of 674 samples taken earlier came back from the lab. With the fresh infections, the tally of cases rose to 40,761. Besides, there are 17 active cases in the district. The death toll stands at 1,096. OC
Narcotics seized, four arrested
Hoshiarpur: The district police have arrested four smugglers by recovering huge quantities of narcotics from them from different places during last 24 hours. The police of Bullowal police station have arrested Rajinder Kumar, alias Bangar, a resident of Fatehupar Niyada and recovered 260 gms of heroin from him. The police of city police station have arrested Rajesh Kumar, alias Raju, a resident of Deep Nagar and recovered 90 gms of intoxicating powder from him. Similarly, police of Model Town have arrested Sandeep Kumar, alias Deepu, a resident of Kamalpur and recovered a huge quantity of sedative bullets from him. While the police of Garhshankar have arrested Hussain Lal, alias Jeevan, a resident of Denowal Khurd and recovered 30 gms of intoxicating powder from him. OC
Two booked for jumping parole
Hoshiarpur: Mahilpur Police have registered a case against two prisoners for not returning to jail after being released on parole. ASI Gurmail Singh has lodged a complaint with the police of Mahilpur. He told that Sudhir Thakur, a resident of Dehlar village, was sentenced to life imprisonment on November 20 in a murder case. He told that the accused did not return after which he was declared a proclaimed offender. Whereas in another case, Kuldeep Singh alias Sonu, a resident of Mahilpur was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment and fined one lakh rupees in a case of smuggling. The accused had gone on parole but did not return on time. The police have booked the accused who has been declared a fugitive. OC
Minor abducted, Case registered
Hoshiarpur: The police of Tanda police station have registered a case against unknown persons for luring a minor girl away on the pretext of marriage. According to the information, a woman resident of Mirzapur village told the police that she had gone to get fodder from the fields. When she returned home, her minor daughter was missing from the house. She alleged that some unidentified miscreant lured her minor girl and took her away on the pretext of marriage. The police have registered a case. OC
11-year-old dies in road mishap
Hoshiarpur: An 11-year-old boy who was injured in a road accident, died at a Jalandhar hospital on Sunday. The police of Dasuya police station have registered a case. Harmanjit Singh has lodged a complaint with the police that he was returning from Garna Sahib Gurdwara with his nephew Gursharan Singh. When he reached near Dasuya, a car passing by hit him. Due to which both of them got injured. The police have registered a case against Sushil Kumar, a resident of Jammu. OC
70 units of blood donated at camp
Garhshankar: A blood donation camp was organised by Pardeep Pandit in memory of his late brother Mani Pandit at Halluwal village here on Monday. MLA Dr Raj Kumar, deputy leader of opposition, was the chief guest and advocate Pankaj Kirpal presided over the function. A total of 70 units of blood was collected on the occasion.
