INTACH meet dwells on preservation of historical landmarks

Members of the Punjab Chapter of INTACH, in a meeting held on Thursday here, delved into diverse initiatives focused on the preservation of historical landmarks. The discussions encompassed strategies for raising awareness about the conservation of historical monuments, with a special emphasis on engaging the youth in these endeavours.

During the meeting, Maj Gen Jatinder Dip Singh Bedi (retd), a direct descendant of Guru Nanak Dev, shared insights into the Guru’s life and the historical context of Punjab during that period.

Maj Gen Bedi highlighted Guru Nanak’s visionary perspective from childhood, emphasising his mission to promote peaceful coexistence in turbulent times.

The discussion covered Guru Nanak’s efforts to eradicate societal evils, emphasising the belief in ‘One God’ beyond religious divides.

Maj Gen Bedi touched upon Guru Nanak’s interactions with Moulvies and Pandits, shedding light on his pursuit of divine enlightenment and the connection between Baani music and verse. Furthermore, he presented evidence supporting his lineage from Guru Nanak and beyond, adding a personal dimension to the historical discourse.

The attendees included Lt Gen Surjit Sangra, Lt Gen Amrik Bahia, Lt Gen KJS Gill, Maj Gen Manjit Singh, Maj Gen Amrik Singh, Gagan Preet Singh (convener Amritsar chapter), Dr Sarabjit Virk (convener Kapurthala chapter), Kulbir Singh (Ex-IGP), and many others.

Maj Gen Balwinder Singh, Punjab convener, announced that such meetings would become a regular occurrence, focusing on addressing issues related to Punjab’s culture and heritage.
